Tandoor
(Clay Oven)
|
|||
|
The Tandoor
is a clay oven which is a integral part of sub continental cooking. The
Tandoor was originally used for making bread items such as Naan and Tandoori
Roti. History has it that the practice was started in Egypt during the
construction of the great pyramid. Because of the vast demand for food
,especially bread, the Egyptians used the same stones that were used for
the Pyramids to make a grinding stone. They used this to grind wheat,
which was mixed with water to make bread and baked in the tandoor. Thus
the tradition of baking was born. It found its way into Persia, then Afghanistan
then finally to Northern India Here at spice route we present our customers the opportunity to observe first hand the chefs in our kitchen cooking at the Tandoor which is situated in our reception area and can be seen through the window Our Tandoori dishes have no artificial colours or preservatives. The colouring is achieved using a combination of turmeric, saffron and a special strain of chilli from Kashmir |
